According to CBS News, the agency recalled several batches of nonpareil semi-sweet chocolate produced by Weaver Nut Company, Inc.
The candy contained tiny specks of sprinkles and was available in two red, green, and white Christmas seeds, as well as in white nonpareil candy.
It was sold in the country through grocery and retail outlets. The call-back involves 15 lots of white seed type and six lots of the Christmas seeds type, the US News reported.
The complete list of the impacted lot numbers is given below. According to the FDA, this was detected through a complaint lodged to it by a wholesale customer.
It was later revealed in a lab test that the milk component was not disclosed in the ingredient list in the candy, CBS News reported.
Health officials cautioned that people allergic to milk might experience severe or even fatal reactions in case of consuming the recalled chocolate.
There have been no reports of illnesses yet, but the company issued a private cautionary recall.
According to the company spokesperson Angela Nolt, “Weaver Nut Company is working with the FDA and is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of its products,” US News reported.
