United States: Prepackaged chicken fettuccine Alfredo products at Walmart and Kroger are recalled in connection to an outbreak of listeria that made 17 people ill, three of whom died and one lost a pregnancy.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that victims of the outbreak are in 13 states of the US.

The reports of illnesses came between August 2024 and May 2025, CNN said. These recalled products had been produced by FreshRealm based in Texas.

A similar strain of listeria was detected in March during regular testings at a FreshRealm food plant in March.

FSIS is still investigating as to whether there was an ingredient of the Alfredo meals that can be claimed to have caused the outbreak.

These products can be contained in the USDA inspection mark Est. P-50784, Est. P-47770 or Est. P-47718. Other FreshRealm products are not recalled, said CNN.

Concluding on the warning that FSIS gave, individuals could still be having these meals in their refrigerators and freezers.

One is not supposed to eat them. The customers are encouraged to discard them or take them back to the shop.

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium capable of causing severe disease of listeriosis.

One can develop fever, muscle aches, a headache, a stiff neck, confusion, and loss of balance, as well as convulsions, CNN reported. To a pregnant woman, the infection is known to cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and preterm births or complications in babies.

The disease can also lead to death in old and individuals with poor immune systems. Treatment of the illness is through antibiotics.

FSIS advises seeing a physician and disclosing contact with listeria infection in the case when you feel ill within two months after consuming tainted food, in case you are the one at higher risk.

According to CNN, any sort of premade food needs to be heated until it has a temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before it is consumed.

The only sure way to know whether the food is sufficiently hot would be the use of the food thermometer; this can kill injurious germs such as listeria.
